This photo was taken in our kitchen last August by my hubby. Looking at it a year later has brought back a flood of memories. And a gentle reminder of the beautiful lessons this trying time taught us . August, 2020 when we were deep in the midst of Covid-19. My heart, like everyone else’s, had never in its 58 years of existence felt such a cacophony of emotions all at once.
Sitting behind the closed doors we all grieved for strangers across the globe whose lives came to an abrupt, unexpected end; our hearts sank as we felt the pain of those who lost their loved ones, a deep fear seeped into our souls by the mysterious nature of this virus, our consciousness united in prayers for humanity; an unwavering trust in human capability kept us afloat; unbounded gratitude rose from seeing front line workers risk their very existence; we all closed our eyes with utmost thankfulness for wellbeing of those whose hearts beat in unison with ours.
It was in the beginning of this year that our oldest child, a medical doctor, was serving in the hospital while pregnant, our younger one was in New York with her fiancee when it was the epicentre of Covid, our youngest was cut off from all that made him come alive, and we had two very fragile elders in the house. While my hubby and I worried and protected them all, they were concerned for us and reminded us both of our own vulnerability.
Finally in August we were able to form our own little bubble as we all came under this one roof. Having all our adult children home together was the biggest blessing. During this trying time, we all learnt to do less and live more. Jointly we cooked elaborate meals, had deep conversations, laughed louder, read book, played more, committed to looking after our bodies, and connected at a much deeper level. This kitchen, once again, became the heart of our home.
It was a time I will hold dear. A time that taught us what truly matters and what we need to shed. They say our hardest times teach us the biggest lessons. Covid-19 certainly taught us all some of the most beautiful lessons.
Here are a few lessons I will hold dear for the remainder of my life:
What would you add to this list? What are some of the lessons you will hold dear in your soul?
With love,
Devinder 💖
