Yes, it’s a story of this blazer that was tailor made in India in 1985. My hubby and I had gone shop to shop and tailor to tailor to find the right fabric and fit. When it finally came together I absolutely loved it.
In 1986 I became pregnant with our first daughter and of course the blazer did not fit.
It did not fit while I was pregnant and it did not fit for the next 35 years.
My body and I had moved on. We had moved on to do bigger things like bearing (through c-sections) and raising three children along with many other challenges and missions. Of course, we had changed in our shape, size and attitude.
All the while this blazer sat quietly in the back of my closet as we both secretly cherished the end of an era and it’s fond memories.
If this blazer could talk, I am sure, it would have asked me what happened to the shy young girl who was always meticulous about her attire.
It might have been shocked, over the years, as it watched her pull out the same pair of jeans and sweatshirts. Or maybe this blazer, just like that young girl, knew they were on a mission to fulfill the duties bestowed upon them by the universe. It may have even looked forward to being with her again one day as she came back to her own.
This weekend as we planned to explore Vancouver and spend a day with the autumn leaves I thought of this blazer. It would make for a perfect fall outfit.
Hesitantly, I put it on and to my surprise it fit. I smiled, I twirled and I winked at the little girl in me.
As for the blazer, I think it’s thrilled to be a part of this young girl’s transformation to becoming a confident, capable woman through the incredible journey of life!
What are some memories your closet holds for you?
