Guests In My Kitchen

3 Quick & Healthy Breakfast Options

Hello beautiful souls. Last week we began our new year with a promise to make and keep our one and only New Year’s Resolution. Our resolution was that, “We are going to commit to being a bigger and better version of ourselves with each and every new day.”

In order to live up to this resolution we have to take care of our body, mind and soul. If we are serious about making a change to our lifestyle we have to move from wanting to deciding. I know we have all decided so let us begin by first starting to take care of our bodies.

The first step in making any change is becoming aware of what we put into our bodies. Our sole purpose for eating is to provide our bodies with proper nutrients so that we have abundance of energy and vitality. It’s a bonus that there is so much pleasure related to eating, good and a lot of times not so good, food. Therefore, it is our responsibility to continuously and constantly be conscious of what we put into our bodies.

In this very first post of 2019 under the category, “Guests In My Kitchen”, I am sharing 3 of my absolute favourite, quick and healthy breakfast options. Going along with the same theme the guest in my kitchen is Sadia Badiei, from her Youtube Channel, “Pick Up Limes”. She is so delightful, as she talks about making healthy food choices.

Quick & Healthy Three Berry & Coconut Water Smoothie

Quick & Healthy Three Berry/Banana/Coconut Water Smoothie

INGREDIENTS:

  • 2 cups coconut water
  • 2 cups three berry frozen berries
  • 1 banana
  • 2 Tablespoons flex seed
  • 2 teaspoons of chia seeds
  • 2 tablespoons of shredded coconut

Put all the above ingredients into a blender and there you have it. Goodness at its best to give your day a head start.

Yields two full glasses. If you would like to make one glass simply half the recipe. The last three ingredients are optional.

Quick, Healthy, Delicious & Nutritious Smoothie Bowl

Quick, Healthy, Delicious and Nutritious Smoothie Bowl

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 cup Greek Yogurt
  • 2 cups of berries (I use Three Berries)
  • 1 banana
  • Few leaves of spinach or kale

Put the above ingredients in a blender. Pour into a bowl and garnish with your favourite fruit, garnola, shredded coconut, chia seeds or flex seed. This dish is delicious. It can also be a great snack or even a healthy dessert.

Quick, Healthy, and Wholesome Avocado & Tomato Toast

Quick, Healthy and
Wholesome Toast with Avocado, Tomatoes and Arugula

Ingredients:

  • One slice whole wheat bread
  • 1/2 avocado sliced
  • one small tomato
  • 1 tea spoon of Hemp Hearts
  • Handful of arugula (or any greens)

Toast the bread and layer the avocado, tomato, sprinkle Hemp Hearts, and top with arugula leaves. I use multi-grain sourdough bread but any type of bread will work fine. This is also one of my favourite snacks for any time of the day.

There you have it. Three very quick, healthy and nutritious breakfast options to incorporate into your daily lifestyle to get a head start on a bigger, better version of yourself for 2019.

And without further ado here is my guest, Sadia Badiei, from Pick Up Limes. She has some wonderful suggestions and information.

Great recipes with healthy ingredients. I love berries. These are time savers as well. Thank you for sharing. My mother is diabetic and I mostly bring avocado for her but never tried the toast, I think it looks delicious.

Thank you so much Bushra. These are all very healthy and yes quick for rushed morning breakfast or anytime of the day for that matter. We have a difficult time keeping up with the avocado demand in our house when the kids are home. It is really delicious on toast with all the other good stuff. Give it a try.

Love this, and how beautiful are these finished dishes?! I’m always looking for healthier options in the morning, so thank you for this!

Thank you for the read Erica. I am so glad you like them. These are perfect breakfast options for rushed mornings. I even make small packs of berries, bananas and spinach, etc. made up in the freezer so my brain can have no excuses 😂. Here to healthier us in 2019!!

Oh my, I was just needing a few new breakfast ideas! The avocado tomato toast would be awesome for lunch and I just happen to have all the ingredients 🙂 This morning I made a smoothie with some protein, peanut butter, spinach, and moringa powder….it tasted good but kind of “green” and I think I didn’t put enough fat into it because I am getting ready to forage for a snack 2 hours before lunch!

I am so glad you enjoyed the Quick & Healthy Breakfast Options Sarah. I love avocado and tomato toast any time of the day. I haven’t tried this but my daughter takes the coconut water smoothie and adds (7-8) cashews to it. Apparently they are full of protein and healthy fats and makes it creamy. I also don’t like my smoothies too green and love adding protein into mine on days I am planning vegetarian dinner. The great part is you can change the recipe to your own taste and nutritional requirements. Let’s keep each other motivated!
