The Ordinary Extraordinary

On Cloud 9 with The Saheli Foundation

On cloud 9 and in awe of our community, that is how I feel right now. I had planned to write a blog post on a different topic but I am overflowing with happiness and gratitude for what we have been able to accomplish today. I would not be being fair to myself by trying to write on anything other then The Saheli Foundation’s 5th annual backpack delivery!

It all began back in 2015 , with one mission; a few committed volunteers; support from the community; a clear vision and purpose and a whole lot of fulfillment and joy! That is the story of The Saheli Foundation.

Today marked our 5th Annual Backpack Drive as our volunteers gathered to deliver fully loaded backpacks to 5 local inner-city schools. Over the past five years The Saheli Foundation has come together to impact over 1,500 lives and given back approximately $45,000 .

What is more remarkable and unmeasurable is the amount of love, joy and happiness we all experience as volunteers. The precious moments created in our own lives by coming together for one big purpose is priceless. From our oldest volunteer at age 85 to our youngest volunteer at age 12 and everyone in between our purpose gives our four generations a reason to connect, bond and come together. What we give pales in comparison to what we receive as individuals.

As we delivered the backpacks at 5 different schools and met the principals and the staff, our hearts were filled to the brim by the smiles on their faces. Listening to stories of being able to put a smile on an unknown child’s face uplifted our spirits and strengthened our resolve to do more.

Do more we will, thanks to our amazing community. We are currently starting a Chapter in Victoria and looking to solidify and enhance all our existing programs. From the bottom of our heart we want to thank each and every person who enables us to fulfill our mission.

Before giving, the mind of the giver is happy; while giving, the mind of the giver is made peaceful; and having given, the mind of the giver is uplifted. – Buddha

Today our hearts feel a little happier, a little more peaceful and a little more uplifted for we have been able to give a little of ourselves to those in need. A big thank you to our community for enabling us and a bigger thank you to the universe for guiding us in our mission.

With love,

Devinder πŸ’–

Thank you Erica. As I look back at the 5 years I am truly blown away by everything The Saheli Foundation has been able to accomplish. Now everything is on solid footing and simply fulfilling. The best part was meeting the principals and staff who help these kids on a daily basis πŸ’–.

This is such a sweet thing to do! I get so much out of volunteering. Not only do I know I’m helping someone else, but it helps me as well. It lifts my spirits to be able to help others, and I’m sure that’s how all of you were feeling, too. πŸ™‚
