We come into this world as a beautiful bundle, complete and whole. Each of us blessed with different talents, abilities, qualities and all that we need to enjoy this miraculous journey. It is our uniqueness and differences that make this world so intriguing and beautiful.
Unfortunately, as we start to grow and develop our personalities we lose sight of this. Seeking constant approval and acceptance by those around us, we begin to lose touch with our real authentic selves. Our senses trained to look outward for survival become constantly engaged in trying to measure up to others. This soon becomes a habit. We start to feel that we are not enough. We think are not smart enough, tall enough, skinny enough, intelligent enough, caring enough, loving enough. Just never enough. Let’s try and break this vicious cycle.
As we start our gratitude practice let’s begin by recognizing our unique qualities and moreover let’s learn to be grateful for them. Furthermore, We need to find our true selves including our flaws and imperfections. Above all, we must learn to love and own up to who we are without an apology.
Ever since I can remember, I have enjoyed dressing up. Yet the first time someone commented on this and said “You are so into fashion”, the shy little me thought I was being judged. I remember being embarrassed and apologetic as if it was a crime I was committing. I found this remark to be condescending and dismissive. It took me many years to recognize that dressing up not only made me happy but it gave me confidence and fulfillment. Today its one of the things I love about myself.
As Coco Channel said, “Beauty begins the moment you decide to be yourself”.
What is one personality trait you have owned up to and proudly accepted?
